BBC - Audience Research Database
The Audience Research Database
was developed to aid the colation and analysis of data that is created
by the Researchers in the Audience Research Department at the BBC.
The system sits on its own server
within the BBC running Linux and uses PHP as the scripting language
and MySQL for the database.
Functions of the database system
include - add/edit/delete records, comprehensive search facility,
reporting, feedback system and content management administration.
Further details are shown below.
 |
The database has a secure authentication system
which allows users access to the database. Each user is assigned
an access level that allows them to use certain sections of
the database. Once authenticated the user is shown the Main
Menu screen. |
| |
|
 |
The user selects which record they want to edit
from a list. The Edit screen is then shown (the Edit screen
is also used for the addition of records). |
| |
|
 |
The Edit screen allows the user to add,
edit and delete records. Each records data is edited via a number
of screens. The system has a 'commit' function where numerous
screens can be amended but data will only be updated when the
user clicks a final 'commit' button. This has proved a useful
addition and helps to minimise mistakes. |
| |
|
 |
Reports can be produced on each of the records
in the system. The Researchers can use this when doing their
analysis to retrieve information on a particular programme. |
| |
|
 |
The Report produced is shown as a summary initially
with more detailed information available on subsequent screens. |
| |
|
 |
To aid the finding of information the search
page allows a number of different criteria to be searched upon
at the same time. |
| |
|
 |
The administration section provides the ability
to amend numerous sections within the system as well as to administer
user privileges. |
